Whoever sets foot on this island senses a mysterious force branching warmly and beneficently through his veins, senses his soul and begins to grow.” ~Nikos Kazantzakis, author of Zorba the Greek On the magical isle of Crete, we’ll sample the nectar of the gods at a private wine tasting as we, under the guidance of one of Crete’s oldest families, help prepare a delicious traditional Greek meal. We’ll visit and delve into the mysteries of the elaborate Palace of Knossos—the ancient seat of Minoan culture and the home of the infamous Minataur and its daunting Labyrinth. Our Odyssey is designed to awaken your joyful senses, as it assists you in aligning yourself with the power and grace of your life’s purpose. We begin the first leg of our classical tour of Greece. We’ll drive through the beautiful countryside of mainland Greece to Delphi, where we’ll visit the museum and see the unique bronze Charioteer sculpture, whose picture is the symbol on the Chariot card in James’ Voyager tarot deck. There, we’ll sit in front of the bronze Charioteer sculpture as we choose cards from the Voyager deck that represent our own hero’s mythic journey. Check into hotel. Lunch on your own. Group dinner and overnight in Delphi.   FRI., MAR 20 Today is the 1st day of Spring! After breakfast, we’ll visit the Oracle of Delphi. Nothing much happened in the ancient world without first consulting the Oracle at the Temple of Apollo. Delphi was the place to visit before going into battle or even getting into a family argument, especially if you were King! Experience the energy of the area kings and emperors so eagerly visited as they sought the wisdom of the most famous Oracle in the world.   Of course, no one took the advice of the oracle without giving a gift, so, as part of our Vernal Equinox observance, we’ll participate in an offering ceremony to the Oracle, which will prepare us to consciously connect with the purpose of our journey and receive our own personal message from the Oracle.   Afterwards, we’ll depart Delphi for Olympia, where we’ll visit the museum at Olympia, which houses the marble statues of the Temple of Zeus, the unique statue of Hermes by the sculptor Praxiteles and other famous works of art. Lunch on your own. Group dinner and overnight in Olympia.   SAT., MAR 21 After breakfast, we’ll visit Olympia—named for the abode of the gods. This is the birthplace of the Olympic games, held from 776 BC to 383 AD. Explore the ruins of the great monuments which include the Temple of Hera, in front of which burns the Olympic Flame used in modern day Olympic Games. Here also are the remains of the Temple of Zeus, which once housed the golden and ivory statue of Zeus (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World).   We’ll participate in a guided meditation designed to ignite the spirit—the Flame of the Soul—and introduce and connect us to the Greek god-goddess that lives within us.   We’ll drive to Mycenae to visit the remains of this ancient city, which include the Lionesses Gate, the tomb of Agamemnon and the Palace. Everything here reminds us of Homer’s Illiad, including the Grave Circle, in which the famous golden mask of Agamemnon was found.   We’ll visit Epidaurus, famous for its theatre—one of the best preserved monuments of antiquity in the world and considered to have close to perfect acoustics, where we’ll participate in a group “OM” to the Universe for peace and personal fulfillment.   On the drive back to Athens, we’ll stop at the Corinth Canal, where we’ll reflect on the history and importance of this symbol of our passage to a greater level of awareness. Overnight in Athens.   SUN., MAR 22 After breakfast, we’ll enjoy a half-day tour of Athens via motorcoach. The highlight of the tour will be our stop at the Acropolis, where we’ll visit the magnificent Parthenon, the most important archeological treasure of Athens. We’ll participate in a magical, alchemical process honoring Athena, the protector of Athens, for whom the city is named. We’ll continue on to see many of Athens’s modern and ancient sites including the Royal Palace, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Modern Market and we’ll stop at the Monastiraki (Flea Market), which we’ll explore with our guide (shopping!).   Afternoon on your own. Free time to discover Athens your way. Stroll through the quaint streets of the Plaka, the oldest and nicest neighborhood in Athens with restaurants, shops and cafes. Located just below the Acropolis, its streets are a major crossroads of civilization. If you sit in one its charming cafes long enough, you will see that everyone who comes to Greece walks down these streets. Visit one of the many museums. Enjoy lunch in one of the outdoor cafés.
